Tata Martino attacks Liga MX and its scheme: “Business is too visible”

Much has been said about coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino in recent months, but not forever. In his post as manager of the Mexican national team, the Argentine failed to take the team to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was considered a resounding “failure” not only because of the history of El Tri, but also because of the goals and investments before the tournament.

The coach kept silent for a long time, especially after the end of the contract with the national team, but now he has come out to reveal some information about the process he has been leading for four years and the reasons for his failure, which he himself admits with placid self-criticism.

In conversation with a radio program Sports Total 780 from Paraguay Tata Martino criticized the organization of Liga MX and in general the way things are in Mexican football.whose main feature, in his opinion, is that they see everything as a business, and this does not allow the national team to start and grow even more as a footballer born in the country of the Aztecs.

“In Mexico, business is very visible (…) I am not against business, because we make money from business and live, those of us who play football could not survive (…) But with a balance not to be left in side of the football part”

Tata Martino

The 60-year-old coach and former football player continued his criticism and dismissed the fact that in the MX League “the growth of the boys, the work of the secondary units” is left aside, and all this is part of a long-term plan, because the only thing I think about is “to make money and so that the business flourishes”.

“Don’t let football die because one day business will die”

Player sales in Liga MX, evil of Mexican football for Tata Martino

Another aspect sharply criticized by Martineau is the high price that Liga MX teams place on their playerswhich prevents them from migrating to Europe to continue their football growth, which the Argentine considers “quite special” compared to other competitions in the region: “In Mexico, there are internal sales from club to club by football players worth 8 dollars. or 10 million dollars.

“Very large and solid establishments that pay big money. There are very important sales, but these are the players who should be sold for this amount, and they do not have a European market. It’s a bit of a shame, because everyone stays at home, and the footballer doesn’t stop growing and training,” added Tata Martino.
