Kamala Harris Meets with Relatives of Monterey Park Mass Shooting Victims

vice president Kamala Harris arrived near Star’s ballroom dance studio Monterey Park Wednesday evening and stopped to look at the names and photographs of each of the victims who died in mass shooting on Saturday before laying a bouquet of flowers in front of the monument.

Harris said the nation is mourning the loss of 11 people killed and 9 wounded while advocating stricter gun control laws.

The community is holding nightly vigils in the aftermath of a mass shooting that brought people from different backgrounds together to begin to recover from the horrific event.

Harris visited Star Dance Studio to mourn the loss of the victims of the Monterey Park shooting, expressing “the administration’s deepest condolences and sorrow for the cruel, tragic and senseless things that have happened there.”

Vice President Harris said, “Today I visited Monterey Park to pay my respects and honor the memory of those whose lives were taken too soon. This senseless gun violence calls for action. POTUS and I have called on Congress to protect Americans and renew the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”

Harris praised California for its work on gun control laws, but emphasized that Congress must take action for the country as a whole and “have the courage to do the right thing.”

Harris was asked if he thought the current Congress could take action on gun reform, and he gave a strong response. “Unfortunately, we keep saying the same things,” Harris said. “Congress must act. They have to? If you can? Yes”.

After talking to reporters for a few minutes, Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to the Langley Senior Citizens Center where she met with the families of the victims and rescuers.

Authorities said seven people were killed in Half Moon Bay on Monday in a two-location mass shooting believed to have been motivated by workplace violence.

And just hours later, in Oakland, at least one person was killed and seven others injured in another mass shooting at a gas station.

According to the Archive of Gun Violence, US records 40 mass shootings in Januarymore than the days that have passed in 2023.
