A dog from Portugal, almost 31 years old, is recognized as the oldest dog in the world and is included in the Guinness Book of Records, reported on the directory site.
The name of the record holder is Bobi, by February 3, 2023, his age is 30 years and 268 days, which makes him not only the oldest living dog, but also the oldest dog ever recorded. The previous record holder, Bluey of Australia, died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and 5 months.

Why the dog lives so long, his owner Leonel Costa explains several reasons. Firstly, he lives all his life on a farm in a quiet and peaceful village of Conqueiros near the city of Leiria. He was never put on a chain or on a leash, so he calmly walks as much as he wants, where he wants and when he wants. Secondly, he is fed “human” food, only without any seasonings. Thirdly, Bobi is a very sociable dog who always plays a lot with other animals, including cats living in the house.
“Bobby is special because looking at him, you remember people who were part of our family and who, unfortunately, are no longer around, such as my father, brother or grandparents” said the owner of the dog.
Costa said that Bobby could have been killed as an infant. The record-breaking dog was born in a litter of four puppies. Leonel’s father was a hunter, so they always had a lot of dogs. However, the man said that their family could not keep even more animals and decided to kill all the puppies. The three Bobi brothers were buried (in Spain it is customary not to drown them, but to bury them alive in the ground), but they did not notice him, and left him lying in the barn where he was born. Adults discovered him only when he opened his eyes, after which they took pity and accepted him into the family.
