The European Union plans to supply 2 gigawatts of electricity to Ukrainian power grids. The corresponding statement was made by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“When we quickly connected our grids in record time, it was Ukraine that exported electricity to the EU. Now the situation is different, and Ukraine needs electricity. Therefore, we will supply the 2 GW that you need,” – TASS quotes her.

She also added that very soon Kyiv will receive the first billion euros from the European Union for restoration.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal proposed the EU to quadruple the limit on electricity exports to the country to 2 GW.

And the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, said that electricity imports from Europe could cover about half of the volume that Ukraine lacks.
