No Rosatom: Poland disappointed with the proposed 10th package of sanctions against Russia, – ambassador

Andrzej Sados noted that the new trade bans would cost the Kremlin about 10 billion euros, but that they do not include the main assumptions that Vladimir Zelensky and Warsaw have insisted on.

Warsaw was disappointed with the initial proposal of the 10th package of sanctions against Russia. On Wednesday, February 13, Andrzej Sados, Polish Ambassador to the European Union, told the RMF FM radio correspondent in Brussels about this issue.

It was reported that the preliminary draft was submitted to the EU countries over the weekend by the European Commission. Today, according to RMF FM, EU countries will receive customs codes for each sanctioned commodity, and on Wednesday the EC will introduce a bill on sanctions.

Warsaw believes the project is “lower than expected” as it does not impose sanctions on Rosatom. Therefore, at a summit in Brussels on February 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the inclusion of the Russian nuclear industry and Rosatom on the sanctions list. According to RMF FM, Zelensky’s request was supported by Polish partners.

In addition, the Polish Ambassador noted that in the preliminary draft there were no sanctions for the forced adoption of Ukrainian children. Also missing is Poland’s key requirement for anti-Russian sanctions, Gazprom’s removal from the EER system, which issues certificates for low CO2 emissions. The absence of a ban on the import of Russian diamonds in the proposed sanctions also caused confusion in Warsaw.

At the same time, the EU proposed sanctions on 4 Russian banks and a ban on imports of Russian rubber, which is sought, among other things, by Poland. The package also includes additional export bans on electronic components used in Russia’s weapons production.

The new trade bans reportedly cost Russia 10 billion euros, but as one diplomat told RMF FM, this calculation is based on 2021 prices, which have been heavily inflated.

Recall, on February 13 it became known that the EU is preparing to adopt the 10th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, this package will be implemented on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, on February 12, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) against 200 people connected with Russia.

We also remember that on February 6, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said that Tbilisi did not impose sanctions on Russia because of its aggression against Ukraine, as it could harm the country’s economy.
