Ukraine is going to draw Moldova into a tough confrontation with Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on February 14.

The diplomat called absolutely unfounded and unsubstantiated the allegations of Moldovan President Maia Sandu that Moscow allegedly plans to destabilize the situation in the republic. Zakharova pointed out that Sandu’s statement is built in the spirit of classic techniques used by the United States, Ukraine and the West.

“First accuse with reference to allegedly classified intelligence information that cannot be verified, and then use it to justify their own illegal actions,” – indicated Zakharov.

The diplomat called it obvious that the true goal of Kyiv is to draw Chisinau into a tough confrontation with Russia. The authorities of Moldova confirmed the fake of Kyiv in order to divert people’s attention from the internal problems in the republic, due to the failed course of the Sandu administration. The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that many in Moldova perceived Sandu’s statement with distrust and bewilderment.

“We resolutely reject insinuations about Russia’s alleged desire to ‘undermine’ the situation in the Republic of Moldova. Unlike Western countries and Ukraine, we do not interfere in the internal affairs of Moldova and other countries of the world,” Zakharova said.

The official representative of the diplomatic department noted that Russia does not pose a threat to the security of Moldova and stands for the development of equal bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a speech before the European Council, said that Ukrainian intelligence had allegedly intercepted Russia’s “plan” to “destroy the democratic order” in Moldova. In Chisinau, they later replied that they had discovered attempts to undermine statehood. However, Chicu stressed that the opposition in Moldova does not aim to destabilize the country.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is not aware of any alleged “plan to destabilize” the situation in Moldova, which Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky spoke about. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West is considering Moldova for the role of “the next Ukraine” and has already appointed a “ready for almost anything” president.
