US worried about Kremlin’s plans to stage a coup in Moldova – Blinken

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the US Secretary of State noted that Washington will resolutely support Moldova’s security, independence and territorial integrity.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in Germany on February 17 that the United States is deeply concerned by Russia’s efforts to destabilize the Moldovan government. According to the American diplomat, Washington intends to firmly support Moldova and its territorial integrity, CNN reported.

Blinken’s statement came after Moldovan President Maia Sandu said in a February 13 briefing that the Kremlin was planning a coup in the country.

“We are deeply concerned about some of the conspiracies we see coming from Russia in an attempt to destabilize the government,” Blinken told Sandu as part of the Munich Security Conference.

According to him, the United States firmly sided with Moldova, supporting Moldova’s security, independence and territorial integrity. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also noted the important reform efforts made by the President and Government of Moldova.

Sandu replied that 2022 is an incredibly difficult year for his country. He thanked the United States for its support in resolving numerous problems, including in the energy, economic and security field.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 9 Ukrainian intelligence had information about the Kremlin’s plans to seize Moldova. The head of state noted that the Russian Federation has handed over all available information about its intentions to the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

It was also announced by Alexei Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, that Russia was planning a coup in Moldova. During the telethon on January 11, he said that the “rescuers” sent from the Russian Federation to Turkey were actually members of the Chechen group that could arrive in Chisinau.
