Dutch brewer Heineken has announced its intention to leave the Russian market in the first half of 2023. The company also said they have donated more than 1m euros to aid Ukraine.
At the beginning of March 2022, Dutch brewer Heineken plans to announce the end of its investments and exports of its products to Russia. This is reported on the company’s website.
“Shortly after we announced our decision to withdraw the Heineken brand from the market, local operations in Russia, from the Russian prosecutor’s office, “deliberate bankruptcy” remains a criminal offense in Russia to this day if this decision results in the suspension or closure of our business. “It’s hard to close the deal in Russia because it’s going on. We want everything to go faster and we aim to reach an agreement in the first half of this year,” the message says.
Heineken estimates the damage from the exit from the Russian market to be around 300 million euros.
The company stated that they are actively helping Ukraine. In particular, they noted that they have donated more than 1 million euros through the Habitat for Humanity company and its staff to support humanitarian assistance to refugees from Ukraine.
On February 14, Reuters wrote that gas exports to European countries decreased significantly after the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Although Western sanctions did not apply to pipeline gas, Russia itself limited its supply. According to journalists, the decline in gas exports continued in January 2023, during the last month the Russian gas monopoly earned $ 3.4 billion in revenue from exports, while its profit for the same period of 2022 amounted to $ 6.3 billion.
