The US government analyzes and investigates the increase in the labor exploitation of migrant children

US Department of Labor analyzes growing labor exploitation of migrant children who arrive in the US illegally and are often left without parents.

According to the federal agency, among the events it will host are do more research in geographic areas where it is believed that companies profit from child labor.

Other actions the Department of Labor will take is to use a legal provision called “hot goods” that will allow it to seize carriers of goods suspected of child labor.

I also know will ask Congress to increase penalties for companies or people who commit violations for exploiting minors. Currently, the maximum fine an offender can receive for violating child labor rules is $15,000.

Federal investigators note that migrant children are the least likely to seek help from labor inspectors.

Places where migrant children have been found doing dangerous work include supply chains such as J. Crew, Walmart, Target, Ben & Jerry’s, Fruit of the Loom, Ford and General Motors, to name a few.

It is estimated that more than 250,000 children have arrived in the United States in the past two years. and at least a dozen of them have died doing work since 2017.

The action, announced by the Department of Labor on Monday, comes after The New York Times published an investigation revealing a rise in the use of migrant child labor in the United States.

The investigation uncovered the case of several minors who were packing food late at night in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
