Biden administration remains optimistic about student loan write-offs despite Supreme Court disappointment

While the Supreme Court remained somewhat skeptical of President Joe Biden’s arguments to abolish student loans, the education secretary Michael Cardona noted that the president’s team carried out a “powerful defense” plan to write off up to $20,000 of debt to federal borrowers.

Cardona even pointed out that the Biden team “provided a powerful defense before the Supreme Court of the United States in our plan to promote targeted care and writing off student debt for more than 40 million working and middle-class Americans who are recovering from the pandemic.”

Through Emailwhich CNN had access to, Cardona addressed the borrowers who requested debt relief and expressed confidence in the plan “our administration trusts our legal authority to enact this plan and today I make it clear that the opponents of the program have no legitimacy even take his case to court.”

He also stressed that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and he recognize how important this relief is for tens of millions of Americans “We are fighting to provide much-needed assistance to borrowers trying to recover from the economic crisis.”

People familiar with the subject told the aforementioned media that Confidence reigns inside the White House believing that the plaintiffs “lack the legitimacy to make claims” and that the word “we will win” can be heard on the spot.

“While opponents of this program are denying aid to tens of millions of working and middle-class Americans, we fight to help borrowers“Cardona also wrote in a letter that he sent via email.

Biden plan pay off up to $10,000 of federal student loan debt for people making less than $125,000 a year or less than $250,000 for married couples. While Pell Grant recipients can receive up to $20,000 of forgiveness.. According to the White House, over 40 million federal borrowers will qualify for a certain level of debt relief.

The Supreme Court will decide on the legality of Biden’s plan in June.
