US sees TikTok as a national security risk

US authorities fear that TikTok could threaten the country’s security due to the possible collection of information about American users. This was announced at a briefing by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“We have concerns about the application. They concern the collection of information about Americans and the potential risk to national security.“, – said the representative of the American leadership.

She claims that the Chinese authorities may be trying to collect data from Americans. What the leadership of the PRC will do with this information – she did not specify.

Journalists also asked Jean-Pierre if US President Joe Biden could ban TikTok. However, she declined to answer.

Earlier on March 1, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives supported a bill giving the president the power to ban mobile apps, including TikTok.

They are also trying to ban the platform in the European Union, so far only on office phones.
