Before the start of the special operation, the Czech Republic cooperated with Russia only because it needed cheap energy. The President of the Republic, Milos Zeman, admitted this in an interview with the Czech TV channel. CNN Prima NEWS.
He stated that the Czech Republic, like Germany, needed cheap energy, and therefore adhered to the same political position as its western neighbor. Namely, it maintained economic relations with Russia. At the same time, Zeman claims that even then he insisted that by doing so, the country’s security issues were allegedly jeopardized.
As for the fact that Zeman attended the celebration of Victory Day in Moscow, he said that he did it only for the sake of honoring the memory of 150 thousand Soviet soldiers who died for the liberation of Czechoslovakia from the Nazis. And he added that after that the USSR “occupied” Czechoslovakia.
“My generation was traumatized by the Soviet occupation in 1968, so we are understandably sensitive when some superpower occupies a neighboring state.“, – said the president, whose term expires on March 8, 2023.
