AMLO confirms search for four Americans abducted in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador has confirmed that Mexican authorities are looking for four US citizens who were kidnapped on March 3 in the city of Matamoros in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

“This case is already being considered, it was in Matamoros… This is already being resolved, I think it will be resolved, I hope so, I wish”, he commented.

From the National Palace, López Obrador reported that the Americans had crossed the border into Mexico in search of medicine when they were detained and kidnapped by an armed group.

“These are people from the United States that we have information about, they crossed the border to buy medicine in Mexico and there was a standoff between the groups and they were arrestedThis is the information we have,” he said.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador specified that Public Security Minister Rosa Isela Rodríguez and Tamaulipas Governor Américo Villarreal are in constant contact during the investigative work to find those deprived of their liberty.

“The whole government is working on it… The governor is working on it, we have constant communication with him, yesterday all day”, he claimed.

“He works mainly with the Minister of Public Security, with Rosa Isela (Rodriguez), he has a connection, I hope more information about this will be given later.”, he assured.

It was this Sunday, March 6, that the FBI announced in a statement that it was offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who provided information on the whereabouts of four Americans abducted in Mexico.

In addition, the FBI provided the San Antonio Division’s phone number 210-225-6741 and its website https://tips.fbi.gov so that the public can provide anonymous information about wanted individuals.

For our part, the US Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar clarified in a statement that a Mexican was killed in the incident during the abduction by the Americans..

“On Friday, March 3, unknown intruders in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, kidnapped four US citizens at gunpoint in an incident that tragically killed an innocent Mexican citizen.”, he notes.

Ken Salazar also indicated that Mexican and US authorities are working together to rescue the hostages.

“Various US law enforcement officials are cooperating with Mexican authorities. at all levels of government to achieve the safe return of our compatriots,” he said.
