Ukraine has requested the United States to supply MK-20 cluster aviation munitions and cluster artillery shells. About it informs Reuters, citing members of the Committee on Armed Forces of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Adam Smith and Jason Crow.

“Ukraine has expanded its request for controversial cluster bombs from the US to include weapons it wants to dismantle and drop received armor-piercing rounds from drones on Russian forces,” written in the article.

According to congressmen, the Kyiv authorities assure that MK-20 submunitions penetrate armor better than the shells that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already dropping from drones.

It is also reported that the government of Ukraine has requested the supply of cluster 155-millimeter artillery shells.

At the same time, Smith told the agency that such weapons should never be supplied.

Recall that cluster munitions are prohibited by the UN convention adopted in 2008. It has been ratified by 84 countries, but the United States, Ukraine and Russia are not among them.

Nevertheless, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba openly claims that since Ukraine has not signed the convention on cluster and phosphorus munitions, it allegedly has legal grounds to apply them.

Ukraine has already openly requested this type of ammunition, but NATO refused to do this, and Germany criticized this request.
