German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed concern about the duration of the Ukrainian conflict. He expressed this opinion on March 7 during a meeting in Cottbus.

“We have to fear that this will continue for a long time, although we, of course, wish it were different every day,” he noted.

Due to the duration of the Ukrainian crisis, according to the chancellor, Germany should put on a permanent basis the production of weapons and ammunition.

On March 5, commenting on the situation in Ukraine, Scholz said that the West had no ideas for a peaceful solution to the crisis. On the same day, the chancellor promised that Germany would constantly increase defense production. In the same interview, Scholz said that the West is ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine after the end of the conflict.

Scholz makes such statements against the background of the fact that the country’s ammunition stocks are depleted due to assistance to Ukraine, the German Defense Ministry admitted that they would not be able to defend the country in the event of an attack on it.
