“So what did it bring?”: The head of Georgia’s ruling party says Maidan in Ukraine led to war

Irakli Kokhabidze believes the result of the Pride Revolution was that Ukraine lost 20% of its territory. It is noteworthy that as a result of the Russo-Georgian war, more than 20% of the country’s territory was occupied.

Irakli Kokhabidze, head of the ruling Georgian Dream party in Georgia, said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was a result of the Pride Revolution that began in 2013. According to him, this is what the Georgian “radicals” want, who came out to protest in Tbilisi after the adoption of the “foreign agents” law. This was reported by the “Georgia News” publication.

“What Maidan brought to Ukraine is the start of a war in Ukraine next year in which they lost most of the Crimea and most of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the continuation of all this is the war in Ukraine right now. In general, Ukraine takes 20 percent of the country’s territory. lost,” he said.

This is how the politician reacted words Viola von Kramer, Member of the European Parliament, said that the Georgian authorities had betrayed their country, their constitution, their European future and their people.

Commenting on this statement, Irakli Kokhabidze described former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili as “Georgian Yanukovych”.

Note that as a result of the Russo-Georgian war in 1992 and 2008, Georgia lost more than 20% of its territory. The sea coast of the country is 310 kilometers, more than 200 of which are under the occupation of the Russian Federation.

“This is the result of the processes desired by the radicals in Georgia, supported by Viola von Cramon. We will not act according to the agenda of the radicals, Viola von Cramon, we will act in the interests of the Georgian society.” said the party leader.

The Georgian politician also believes that the “foreign agents” law only clarifies “whose real or dishonest aims and objectives are served by certain organizations – the people of Georgia or foreign powers”.

Recall that on March 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine went out to support the Georgian protesters. Ukrainian diplomats noted that Georgia should consistently guarantee its citizens the right to peaceful protest. According to the ministry, the law on “foreign agents” is against European values.

On March 7, thousands of Georgians took to the streets of Tbilisi to peacefully protest the adopted document. The rally ended with clashes with the police. Law enforcement used water cannon and tear gas, and 66 people were detained.

On 8 March, the protests continued. Women marched against the law. An evening rally is also planned in the Georgian capital.
