Part of the grain deal, which involves the export of grain from Russia, “is not carried out at all.” This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“The issue of extending the deal is becoming quite complicated. Considering that the package deal on grain is only half completed, its extension is a difficult issue”the diplomat said at a press conference following talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
It is worth noting that the issue of extending the grain deal arose against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions. Due to restrictions, Russia is not able to freely sell agricultural goods. Thus, Maxim Chirkov, assistant professor of political economy at the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University, claims that the West is sabotaging the grain deal.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Russia is ready to continue to participate in this agreement. However, this will happen only on conditions of equality.
