According to Andrew Adams, spokesman for the US Department of Justice, the Boeing 737-7JU aircraft were used by Rosneft to smuggle and circumvent sanctions.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York has authorized the arrest of an American-made Boeing 737-7JU aircraft belonging to Russian oil company Rosneft for violating export controls and sanctions. Reuters writes about it.
Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin was reportedly included in the US sanctions list in February 2022 in connection with the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine.
The US Department of Justice states that the Rosneft plane, whose cost exceeds $25 million, has traveled between Russia and other countries at least seven times since then.
Agency spokesman Andrew Adams said the Boeing 737-7JU violated export controls and was used for smuggling purposes. A Rosneft plane was last seen in the United States in 2014.
“Today’s sanctions measures show that Russian companies and oligarchs are paying the price for largely avoiding sanctions imposed by the United States in response to an unjust war against the Ukrainian people,” said US Attorney Breon Peace.
Recall that on February 27, 2022, the An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft belonging to the Russian cargo airline Volga-Dnepr was arrested in Canada. At the time Canada joined the international sanctions against the Russian Federation, the Russian plane was in the air and was arrested as soon as it arrived at Pearson airport.
In June of the same year, Sri Lanka decided to arrest the Russian Aeroflot Airbus A330 after a complaint from the Irish leasing company Celestial Aviation Trading Limited.
We also wrote that on July 6, 2022, it was learned from Viktor Medvedchuk, deputy of the Opposition Life Platform, that a helicopter and plane were seized and the equipment was transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
