Russia supports the initiative of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi to create a security zone at the Zaporozhye NPP. Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative of the Russian Federation in Vienna, announced this at a meeting of the organization’s council.
According to him, now there is a clear understanding of the parameters of the security zone: the inadmissibility of attacks on the station, the ban on hostilities, the guarantee of non-deployment of heavy weapons and ammunition, as well as the provision of security measures. Everyone should understand that an attack on a nuclear facility is fraught with a global catastrophe and grave consequences.
“From Kyiv, in fact, only one thing is required – confirm that the Ukrainian armed forces will not carry out shelling of a peaceful nuclear facility. But the Ukrainian side avoids such confirmation in every possible way. It’s disturbing”Ulyanov noted.
He added that the IAEA secretariat is still ignoring the information provided by Russia on the current situation at the plant.
Earlier, Ulyanov said that Kyiv was not ready to create a protective zone around the ZNPP. Also, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Zelensky regime blocked this agreement.
