“I ate in secret”: mom left her young children home alone for two months (photo)

Raven Yates, a 31-year-old mother of two from Texas, allegedly left her two children alone at home. She was found and arrested in Alabama a few months later. Reported by the New York Post.

A woman is accused of leaving her 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son alone for 2 months.

Yates was detained by the US Police Department in Alabama for abandoning/endangering a child with no intention of returning. According to law enforcement officials, the woman threatened her daughter not to tell anyone she had left the child unattended.

Police said the 12-year-old was able to secretly obtain food by asking his father to order food regularly, on the pretext that his mother was late for work. The children’s father, who lives and works in California, was unaware of the situation until family members saw Yates in Mobile City. The man went to Texas and spoke to the police at the house where the children lived alone. There was no food on the shelves or in the fridge, but the brother and sister looked healthy.

Stephen Carlisle, chief of police for Roman Forest, Texas, told KTRK that police had to break down the bedroom door of the apartment to detain the woman.

“He was photographed in handcuffs with a big smile on his face and didn’t seem to mind the allegations that he was putting his own children in danger. I think he was playing for the camera. He wanted to smile. He wanted to look good. Officer Carlisle, who was arrested said he wanted to put makeup on his lips before the photo was taken.”

Both children were placed in the care of a grandmother in Alabama. The children’s mother is currently held in Mobile City County Penitentiary awaiting extradition to Texas.
