Thousands of migrants are trying to flee to the US from Ciudad Juarez to El Paso, Texas.

About 2,000 migrants moved towards the middle of the Santa Fe International Bridge.dividing line between Mexico and the United States, in Mexican Ciudad Juarez, to put pressure on US authorities to enter that country this Sunday.

In the first case, migrants, mostly from Central and South America, passed through the checkpoint of the Mexican authorities on the aforementioned bridge, also known as Paso del Norte, which borders Ciudad Juarez and the city of El Paso, Texas, USA. then They tried to break into the United States.

The task of the migrants was to put pressure on and attract the attention of the US authorities so that they would issue them permits and allow them to cross the border in search of the so-called “American Dream”.

Word spread among the undocumented immigrants who remained near the border crossing that they would be allowed entry at that point. However, Immigration agents from the US were waiting for them armed and to prevent their passage, they installed a security bellows.that is, rolled barbed wire to prevent their illegal crossing.

With the arrival of more migrants, their demands increased until the US authorities began to beat those who tried to cross the border, threatening them with firearms.

Dozens of undocumented immigrants have reported trying to legally cross the US border.who have made an effort to make an appointment with the immigration authorities for asylum but have had no luck as the application always has an error when they receive an appointment.

According to them, because of this, they will remain in the middle of the bridge for as long as it takes to enter the United States. Faced with this scenario, US Customs and Border Protection agents formed a barrier of dozens of police officers to monitor the area.

One of the protesters was Luiza, originally from Venezuela.who told EFE that on March 1 he showed up with his appointment and was told by the United States authorities to say goodbye to his children “that I passed by and they didn’t”.

“So I came back, and today, March 12, when my children have an appointment, they tell me that I cannot cross the border, and the chief of agents told me that this is the case and that they are in charge.”

He mentioned that it’s impossible to get to the family reception and in her case, since December, she has been trying to contact the US immigration authorities, but when she goes with the children, they ask her to separate from them. “What mother would leave her children alone,” he said.

Another example is José López, also from Venezuela, who said he was in Ciudad Juarez to try to cross the border. “So I’ll be here for as long as it takes,” he said.

He said that in Ciudad Juarez he must take care of the Mexican authorities and not leave after 7:00 pm, as he wants to enter the United States and his stay is related to the cost of food and lodging for his family.

Another case is José Alvarez, also of Venezuelan origin, who reported being in Ciudad Juarez for more than 60 days.

“We were looking for a meeting and nothing we managed to get it. I thought the United States government was deliberately causing an error in the application to keep us out of it.”

He explained that, ideally, the United States authorities should draw up a written list so that it can be seen whether every migrant who needs it can receive political asylum or not.

A Mexican border town is practically destroyed by the massive arrival of migrants.

Except, shelters are fully loaded, and migrants who have not reached the shelter are sleeping on the street, faced with low temperatures in the region. With regard to food and housing, the community of Ciudad Juárez supported the migrants.

The region is seeing a record migration flow, with 2.76 million undocumented people detained at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2022.
