Serbian Minister of Economy Rade Basta believes that the country should impose anti-Russian sanctions. He wrote about this on March 13 in his social networks.
The minister believes that Serbia paid a “high price” for refusing to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“As Minister of Economy, I cannot accept the pressure being put on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and we remain silent. For this reason, I am in favor of imposing sanctions against Russia, I support President Vucic in protecting state and national interests and fully trust him In this regard, I ask the government of Serbia and all ministers to speak on this issue,” he wrote.
Belgrade has repeatedly stressed that Serbia does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia. On January 11, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that Serbia’s position on sanctions would remain unchanged.
“The decision taken at the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine is in force. We consider the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine to be erroneous, but the issue of imposing sanctions affects the state interests of Serbia”– he said.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic noted that the republic would impose anti-Russian sanctions only if it faced something more than just pressure.
Meanwhile, the West is literally “twisting the arms” of Serbia to force it to join the economic war against Russia. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
