The Ukrainian military discovered on their territory the city ofit appears to be a civilian drone manufactured by a Chinese company.modernized and armed, believed to be used by Russia, CNN reported on Thursday.
The drone was shot down in the Ukrainian forest, the location of which is not specified, and the Ukrainian military showed its remains to journalists of the American network, assuring that they shot down from his automatic weapon “Ak-47”.
According to CNN, it was unmanned aerial vehicle “Mugin-5” (UAV) manufactured by a Chinese company based in the port city of Xiamen, on the east coast of the Asian country.
The network quoted some tech bloggers as saying the devices are known as “Alibaba drones” because they were available for sale for around $15,000 on Chinese market websites, including Alibaba and Taobao distributors.
Mugin Limited confirmed to CNN that this is the fuselage of a device manufactured by Mugin Limited. and called the incident “deeply unfortunate”.
For the network, this is the latest example of a civilian drone being upgraded and armed for use during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a sign that Moscow’s methods of warfare are changing rapidly.
The Ukrainian military explained to reporters that the drone was flying at a very low altitude. when it was positioned and close enough to be shot down by automatic weapons, and that the device was adapted to carry a bomb.
The armed commercial drone was not equipped with a camera, meaning it could not be used for surveillance. essentially makes it look like a “silent bomb”according to Chris Lincoln-Jones, a retired British Army officer and drone specialist consulted by the American network.
“This particular drone we were looking at would be a lot more efficient if it had a decent camera,” Lincoln-Jones said.
He added that this commercial drone incident adds more evidence. the theory that Russia is not the military superpower the world might expect.
