Man discovers 400-year-old frescoes while renovating his kitchen

Seeing the ancient drawings, Luke Budvords turned to the local historical community, whose discovery was already called outstanding.

Dr Luke Budwardes, a medical researcher at the University of Leeds, decided to build a new kitchen in his home in Micklegate, North York, and during the work frescoes dating back to 1660 were discovered in his kitchen, Mirror writes.

According to the publication, he discovered the first part of the drawing last year and has since identified other parts of the chimney that have been sealed under the ceiling on either side. According to experts, the wall on which the scenes are depicted may be older than the buildings on either side. The murals depict scenes from Francis Quarles’ 1635 book Emblems.

“I know when they (the repairmen) found there was a parallel piece of wood on the other side of the chimney that might have had the same thing. I never thought before, I thought there were pipes behind it. I always knew there was a strange piece of wall there but I just thought the apartment was really wobbly because over the years millions of something different happened I got really excited and got my tools and started to take it off At first I thought it was an old Victorian wallpaper, but soon they found that they were actually painted on the wall of a neighboring building. So they’re older than the building itself. It’s about the 1660s, So it’s presumed to be a period of the Civil War. Crazy to think about.

In turn, historians have already called it an incredible and exciting discovery. .

“We think the drawings are of national importance and are of particular interest in the context of York, where home murals are extremely rare,” Simon Taylor, senior architecture researcher for the northern region of historic England, told reporters.

The owner of a unique house said he moved to York in October 2020 because the history of this area beckons him. Now he hopes that there will be those willing to fund the restoration of the fresco found, and that the doctor will be able to learn more about the history of the area.

“One of the great things about York for me was that it was so historical. It’s amazing to know that now there is history in my apartment, not just outside, but inside as well. I’m so glad I found these drawings and love them, but they’re also kind of a burden. The cost is thousands of lira. I have covered them for now so they don’t get direct sunlight and lose their color. We printed them out, make a high-resolution version of them, and put a copy on top of them to hide them. We hope we can spread this out and see if there are communities or graduate students interested in participating in experimental conservation projects. Also inspires other Micklegate residents to start investigating, suspiciously within their own walls.” Luke stressed.

According to the Air Force, the drawings were first discovered in 1998, but they were covered in paper and practically scored.

Historic England, which has printed a copy of the painting to help preserve the frescoes, has published a guide for those who discover the mural on their property.

Previously Focus He wrote that ancient frescoes from the pre-Columbian Moche culture were found in Peru.
