Model of cooperation: Putin thanks China for stance on Ukraine

In an article on the pages of the People’s Daily media on the eve of Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, the President of Russia specially described diplomatic relations with China and thanked him for his stance on the war in Ukraine.

On the eve of Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin published an article in the People’s Daily media defiantly emphasizing the importance of relations between the two countries. The article was also published on the official website of the President of the Russian Federation.

The material is timed to coincide with the start of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia, which began on March 20 and ended on March 22.

According to Vladimir Putin, Russian-Chinese relations today actually act as a cornerstone of regional and global stability, promote economic growth and serve as a guarantor of a positive agenda in international relations.

The Russian president also believes that Russia’s diplomatic relations with China are an example of harmonious creative cooperation between the great powers. Moreover, Putin has repeatedly reiterated that the Russia-China partnership has a special character.

“The progress made in bilateral relations is impressive. Russia-China relations have reached the highest level in their history and continue to strengthen, surpassing the military-political alliances of the Cold War in character,” Putin said.

Separately, the president of the aggressor country thanked China for “China’s balanced line in connection with the events taking place in Ukraine.”

On March 15, China, Iran and Russia announced joint military exercises. As stated by the Chinese Ministry of Defense, the joint events, called the “Maritime Security Belt-2023”, will contribute to “deepening the practical cooperation between the navies of the participating countries”.

In March, we also reported that the US criticized China’s plan to end the war in Ukraine. According to White House spokesman John Kirby, a ceasefire now between the parties to the conflict would constitute a new violation of the UN Charter.
