“Russia was wrong”: one of Trump’s main opponents called Putin a war criminal

Some time ago, Ron DeSantis, who may run for the Republican presidential election, described the war in Ukraine as a “territorial dispute”. The rhetoric of politics changed after a warrant was issued for the arrest of the Kremlin chief.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has changed his mind about Russian President Vladimir Putin for the worse. On Wednesday, March 22, this portal writes about CNN.

Now, the likely opponent of Donald Trump from the Republican Party in the upcoming US presidential election has begun to call the president of the Russian Federation a war criminal who should be held responsible for the war against Ukraine.

“I think he is a war criminal. The United States does not recognize the International Criminal Court… but I think he should be held accountable,” he said.

At the same time, he previously described the war in Ukraine as a “territorial dispute”, and such aid to Kiev harms the national interests of the United States. His party was subsequently criticized by the Republican Party and has now changed its rhetoric. Ron DeSantis said he would do so without hesitation if he could return all the territories to Ukraine as soon as possible.

But with the increase in the supply of weapons and the possible participation of US troops in the war in the future, they categorically disagree, as this only leads to escalation.

“That’s what I always meant. But Russia made a mistake in invading it. They made a mistake in taking Crimea. I don’t think it will end with Putin winning. He and I think well,” he repeated.

Recall that on March 14, US presidential candidates opposed military aid to Ukraine. According to “Republican” Vivek Ramaswamy, the war in Ukraine should become a privilege only for Western European countries. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized Joe Biden’s policies that led to the unification of Russia and China.
