EU confirms promise to transfer 1 million shells to Ukraine

The EU reaffirmed a promise to transfer to Ukraine a million surface-to-surface missiles within a year and missiles, if Kyiv needs them. This is stated in the statement adopted on March 23 at the end of the summit by the heads of state and government of the EU countries.

“The European Council welcomes the agreement in the Council of the EU on the urgent allocation of ground-to-ground munitions and artillery shells to Ukraine, as well as missiles, if it requests them,” – said in the document.

Armaments will be acquired through joint orders funded by the European Peace Fund.

In addition, the heads of the EU countries proposed to create an international mechanism for accounting for the damage caused to Ukraine in order to subsequently demand reparations corresponding to its level.

On March 20, it became known that the heads of the Foreign and Defense Ministries of the EU countries agreed to supply Ukraine with shells from arsenals. Earlier, the European Defense Agency reported that 17 EU countries and Norway signed a project to jointly purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian army and restore their own stocks.

Western countries, led by the United States, continue to pump weapons into Ukraine, supplying ever new types of them: infantry fighting vehicles, armored vehicles, tanks, missile systems, artillery systems, and MLRS.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly emphasized that any shipments of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of weapons would not stop, but would prolong the conflict in Ukraine, and called the position of Western countries “harmful” and “counterproductive.”
