This Wednesday job search site Indeed has announced that it will be laying off nearly 2,200 employees from its payroll. Company chief executive Chris Hyams said workers would receive an email with the subject line “your position has been affected.”
Although Hyams emphasized that this was one of the most difficult decisions to make, “cutbacks are coming from almost every team, function, level and region,” he pointed out, mentioning that this is due to the fact that the labor market will continue to cool after the increase in wages during the pandemic.
This reduction will represent 15% of its workforce. “Specific decisions about who and where to cut were extremely difficult, but they were treated very carefully,” Hyams said in a memo to his staff.
The company believes that job offers will continue to decline between this year and next. “Last quarter, the total number of vacancies in the US decreased by 3.5% compared to last year, while the volume of sponsored jobs fell by 33%,” explained the CEO of Indeed.
He also stated that in the United States, job offers are expected to drop even further, and it is estimated to be around 7 million applications or less. lTerminated Indeed Workers will receive a 16-week severance pay plus your regular checks during the last week of March.
