According to investigators, Sergei Rulev demanded 100,000 rubles from Tatyana Krashennikova, assistant of the Communist Party State Duma deputy, for removing scandalous videos about him.
Propagandist Sergei Rulev (known as the author of “Topaz, give the order!”), who fled Ukraine to Russia in 2014, was jailed for blackmail. The arrest was reported by his lawyer, Sergei Badamshin.
Rulev is charged with racketeering, extortion, contempt of the investigation and court. According to the investigation, he demanded 100,000 rubles from Tatyana Krashennikova, assistant of the State Duma deputy from the Communist Party. In exchange for money, Rulev promised to destroy the provocative videos he had previously made about her.
Sergei Rulev went to the Russian Federation as a correspondent for the newspaper Slavyanskiye Novosti and was accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to The Insider, part of her job there was writing notices. One of the episodes, according to the publication, is the accusation that Anastasia Shevchenko, coordinator of the public organization “Open Russia”, was given four years for participating in the activities of an “undesirable” organization. This was the first criminal prosecution case under this article in the Russian Federation.
Where did the phrase “Topaz, give the order” come from?
During the Dignity Revolution, “Topaz”, aka Ignat Kromskoy from Kharkiv, was one of those who led the Anti-Maidan guards in Mariinsky Park in Kiev. Journalist Sergei Rulev wanted to show that the park was “protected” from “Euromaidanites”, and Topaz gave him a tour. However, something went wrong during filming and Topaz’s accomplices attacked Rulev with their fists, and Rulev shouted, “I’m Zinchenko’s man!” [коммендант” Антимайдана, один из его организаторов. Занимался наймом боевиков, координировал действия титушек. — Ред] and “Topaz, give the order!”. The last phrase has become a meme.
Recall that Topaz is currently not free. In February 2022, he was detained in Kharkiv for anti-Ukrainian activities and overseeing a hostile DRG.
