Additional gas supply and oil tolls: what Hungary and the Russian Federation have agreed upon

Hungary has agreed to purchase additional gas from the Russian Federation, as well as payment of tolls directly to the Ukrainian pipeline operator Ukrtransnafta. He writes the Reuters edition about it.

According to journalists, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto acknowledged during his Moscow visit that Gazprom will retain the possibility of additional gas supplies to Hungary.

In addition, Szijjártó said that oil and gas group MOL has committed to paying a toll for the oil shipment through the Druzhba pipeline to Ukrainian pipeline operator Ukrtransnafta.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister said that Gazprom reserves the option to purchase additional gas above the amount determined in the long-term agreement if we need it to prepare for the winter or to fill the storage facilities.

The minister also talked about the changes made to the contract for the expansion of the Hungarian Paks nuclear power plant in 2014.

The authors of the publication noted that Hungary buys 80-85% of its gas from Russia. The main natural gas pipeline through which Russian gas is delivered to Hungary is Turkish Stream.

In addition, 80% of the crude oil Hungary bought last year came from the Russian Federation.

It should be reminded that on April 11, Peter Szijjarto came to Russia with the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev to discuss the energy cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier, on 31 March, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the EU is getting close to sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. According to him, the risk of starting a world war has increased significantly.
