Stolen works of art: a new FBI app to identify them

He Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Wednesday that there is application available to art lovers, collectors, law enforcement and for those who want to use it, to make sure the art or antiques you are viewing, owning or looking to buy are not in fact works of art stolen. Or maybe because you want to help the authorities recover a stolen piece of art.

Law enforcement agencies in the United States and around the world have forwarded information about stolen art to the FBI’s National Archives of Stolen Art (NSAF), a database of stolen art and culturally significant property.

The NSAF is assisting the US and international authorities in law enforcement efforts to close cases and return works of art and property to their rightful owners.

Now anyone can access this database from the palm of their hand using their mobile phone with the new app. and check if the artwork is in the FBI’s National Archives of Stolen Art (NSAF)..

“One of the biggest accomplishments of the NSAF has been making it available to the public,” said Colleen Childers of the FBI’s Art Crime Program. “Now, with the new mobile update we’ve made, we want to keep pushing to make it a more user-friendly platform.”
