The man behind the leak of classified US documents said he received them at some “military base” where he worked. The Washington Post wrote about this, citing a member of the Discord chat group, where the materials were published.

According to the publication, a group of approximately two dozen people, “mostly men and boys,” united on the popular Discord platform among gamers in 2020.

One of the members, a certain OG, posted a message last year “with strange acronyms and jargon”, but other members of the group did not pay much attention to this.

The newspaper spoke to one of the members of the group, who read the message from OG. The interlocutor of the publication said that these were probably “almost verbatim transcripts of secret intelligence documents.”

The Washington Post writes that, as OG said, he brought these materials from his work at some “military base”.

Two large batches of secret Pentagon documents were leaked on April 6 and 8. The papers contain intelligence information about the state of the Ukrainian army, as well as US and NATO plans to strengthen the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Because of this, as CNN previously wrote, Kyiv had to change its “military plans.”

On April 10, White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said that the US authorities have not yet come to a unified version of how the secret documents were leaked.

The Pentagon has already launched an investigation into the incident. Now he has four main versions of what happened, but the revenge of a disgruntled employee of the US Department of Defense appears as the leading one.

Fox News reported that the leak could have come from the Central Intelligence Agency or the US National Security Agency.

Note that the leak of so many classified materials shows the failure of the United States to keep secret information. Against this background, the US may complicate relations with allied countries.
