Russians take the first place in buying a house among foreigners in Georgia

Since the beginning of 2022, citizens of the Russian Federation have bought more than 8 thousand apartments in Georgia, that is, about 40% of apartments sold to foreigners.

In 2022, foreigners bought 15,000 apartments in Georgia, of which more than 6,000 were bought by citizens of the Russian Federation. The Georgian edition of Business Media writes that in the first quarter of this year, Russians bought 2.1 thousand out of 5159 apartments sold to foreigners.

In total, foreigners owned 15,000 apartments in Georgia last year, which is one-fifth of all residences sold during the year. According to the agency, residents of Russia bought 6062 apartments and took first place. In the first quarter of this year, another 2,187 apartments were purchased by citizens of the Russian Federation (5,159 apartments were purchased by all foreigners during this period).

Israel took the second place in terms of the number of houses purchased. In 2022, its citizens became owners of 1892 apartments in Georgia. The third place was taken by Ukraine, whose residents bought 1,321 apartments in this Caucasian country last year.

Iran, Turkey, Belarus, Germany, the USA, Kazakhstan and Armenia were among the top 10 countries whose citizens bought the most housing in Georgia. According to the results of the first quarter of this year, Poland was included in the note instead of the USA.

1. Russia – 2187 apartments, the number of buyers 1679 people;

2. Israel – 671 apartments, the number of buyers 472 people;

3. Ukraine – 520 apartments, the number of buyers is 344 people;

4. Belarus – 164 apartments, the number of buyers is 135 people;

5. Türkiye – 143 flats, 102 buyers;

6. Iran – 129 apartments, the number of buyers 102 people;

7. Poland – 127 apartments, the number of buyers 89 people;

8. Germany – 112 apartments, the number of buyers 88 people;

9. Kazakhstan – 105 apartments, the number of buyers 89 people;

10. Armenia – 93 apartments, the number of buyers is 79 people.

It is worth noting that after the start of special operations, Georgia has become one of the most popular destinations among Russians. The announcement of partial mobilization in the Russian Federation has caused queues at the only ground control point between the two countries, writes Upper Lars, the Russian edition of RBC. During the day, approximately 10 thousand vehicles crossed the border. According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 1.5 million Russian citizens entered the country.

On March 31, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said that the Georgian government, headed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, speaks “the same language” as Moscow. According to him, the rhetoric of the Georgian government and Russian officials in particular coincide with the statements of “opening a second front”.
