Protests and assault on the fashion house: what happens in France on X-day

In France, which has been shaken by mass protests for several weeks, day X is coming. The constitutional council must approve the pension reform that has split French society. The situation in the capital is close to revolutionary.

Republic Square blocked by protesters. Here they arranged dances, even brought a drum. But all this in a tough police cordon. The security forces twice tried to persuade the protesters to disperse. When this did not work out, they switched to detentions, already habitually tough.

The new day of riots was hard for law enforcement officers. The very first attempt to get in the way of the column of strikers led to the fact that the demonstrators stormed the headquarters of the Louis Vuitton fashion house.

The office of the pearl of French fashion clothes was completely destroyed and almost burned down – it was bombarded with fireworks. Opponents of Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform call this particular company a symbol of capitalism and injustice. And instead of saving on ordinary French people, they demand to ruin the company of the richest man in the republic.

“If there are problems to finance pensions, get into the pockets of billionaires who have so much money that they themselves do not know what to do with it. It costs them nothing to compensate for the cost of pensions”says one of the protesters.

Violent crackdown on protesters

A similar fate befell the building of the country’s central bank. Inside, however, the demonstrators failed to break through. But the main target was the Constitutional Council. It is there that the fate of pension reform should be finally decided. And it was on the approaches to it that the toughest confrontation flared up.

Police officers beat protesters with batons in an attempt to disperse the crowd. They also used a favorite tactic – wedging into the ranks of the protesters and severely beating everyone who comes to hand at that moment.

Smoke grenades were used, as well as bombs with tear gas. The protesters did not remain in debt: first they showered the security forces with paint and cobblestones, and then with impromptu Molotov cocktails.

Macron does not plan to give up

The entire center of the French capital was subjected to pogroms. The demonstrators refuse to leave it until the authorities cancel the pension reform. But the government of Emmanuel Macron, even after a month of violent rallies and an almost total strike of civil servants throughout the country, is not going to retreat.

Now the Constitutional Council of France should voice its opinion on the reform. People on the streets do not believe that he can take their side.

“The Constitutional Council will never oppose the government. Because this will immediately cause a crisis of power. In this council, all the henchmen of Chirac, Sarkozy, Hollande, former politicians. And they will cover their own people, that is, the incumbent president, to the last. don’t give a damn, like those who sit in the Elysee Palace”– said the protester Eskaz Zip.

At the same time, the demonstrators are not going to give up and, contrary to the expectations of the authorities, they are going to strike further.
