The UN Security Council called on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to immediately cease hostilities and sit down at the negotiating table.
Members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern over the military clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Reaction Forces. They also expressed regret over the loss of life, including civilians, RIA Novosti reported.
The Security Council calls on both sides to “restore calm.”
Earlier, the Sudanese special forces announced the capture of several military units in the Darfur region, which unites the five states of the country.
Prior to this, the Sudanese Rapid Reaction Force announced the capture of the airport of the capital of Sudan and the air base in Merov, as well as the presidential palace in Khartoum.
On April 15, reports of unrest in Sudan began to come in again. It is already known that as a result of clashes there, at least 25 people were killed and another 183 were injured.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres held talks with the conflicting parties – the commander of the army of Sudan and the commander of the special forces. He called them to an immediate cessation of violence and a return to dialogue.
