Comcast announced that the company and Jeff Schell, CEO of NBCUniversal, mutually agreed to their immediate departure following an investigation into the company by an external legal counsel for allegations of misconduct.
“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the companywhich I deeply regret. I am very sorry that I let down my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them for the last 19 years has been a privilege,” said Shell.
Comcast hired an outside consultant to initiate an investigation after the complaint was filed. The complaint was filed by a woman with whom Shell said she had an “inappropriate relationship,” according to people familiar with the matter.
“We are disappointed to share this news with you. We have built this company on a culture of honesty. There is nothing more important than how we treat each other. You must count on your leaders to create a safe and respectful workplace. When our principles and policies are violated, we will always act quickly to take appropriate action, as we have done here,” said Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.
At this time, Comcast has not announced who will replace Shell at the helm of NBCUniversal, one of the largest media and entertainment conglomerates in the US.
Shell led the company for just over three years, where he previously held other senior positions.
It should be remembered that in 2020, it was NBC Universal vice president Ron Meyer who left the company after revealing a contract with a woman with whom he had a consensual affair.
