The UK sent Ukraine thousands of shells for Challenger 2 tanks, including those with depleted uranium. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, James Hippie, answering questions from MP Kenny Macaskill from the Scottish Alba Party.

“We sent thousands of Challenger 2 rounds to Ukraine, including armor-piercing rounds with depleted uranium,” Hippie noted.

He stressed that for security reasons, the Ministry of Defense would not comment on the indicators of the use of the kits transferred to Kyiv.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the ammunition is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU), but London will not monitor their use.

“The Ministry of Defense does not monitor the places where depleted uranium ammunition is used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Ukraine,” he added.

When asked if the UK Defense Department has an obligation to clean up depleted uranium shells after the end of the conflict, Hippie answered in the negative.

Recall that on March 21, British Deputy Defense Minister Annabelle Goldie announced London’s plans to supply the Zelensky regime with depleted uranium shells for NATO tanks Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Abrams M1. Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted to Britain’s plans to supply Kyiv with radioactive charges, noting that Moscow would be forced to respond to this action by London.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, condemned the actions of the United Kingdom and said that this was “a repetition of the Yugoslav scenario.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that London is undermining world stability in this way. The Russian Embassy, in turn, called Ukraine a British training ground for fighting Russia.

Deliveries of ammunition with uranium for the Armed Forces of Ukraine are all the more pointless since modern Russian tanks are designed to withstand the impact of an armor-piercing projectile.
