Biden calls on union leaders to help ‘finish the job’ of rebuilding America

President’s First Speech Joe Biden since he officially announced his candidacy for re-election to elections 2024 That’s when he spoke to the North American Construction Labor Legislative Conference, which represents 14 unions and nearly 3 million workers, on Tuesday at the Washington Hilton Hotel near the White House.

Biden took the stage chanting “Go ahead Joe” and as he spoke, another “four more years” chant erupted, urging the crowd to let him “finish the job,” his new campaign slogan.

President Joe Biden told union leaders that he was proud to be seen as a pro-union president and that will continue to push for policies that will create more union jobs.

Biden chided Republicans for not voting on the Financial Assistance Plan, the Inflation Reduction Act and other initiatives he said create jobs for trade unions in construction and manufacturing that will revitalize the middle class, and called the investment “transformative”.

He asked the audience to let his administration “finish the job” by lowering inflation and the cost of prescription drugs. Biden said he plans to go back to Congress to allow the government to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies for all Americans, as agreed with the price of insulin.

Biden reviewed other accomplishments of his term, including investment in infrastructure and climate action, and vowed that will continue to fight for what is not yet approved.

For example, he repeated his proposals to end subsidies received by energy and pharmaceutical companies, as well as raise taxes on American billionaires.

“No billionaire should pay less taxes than a builder, teacher, firefighter, police officer or nurse. No way, it’s just wrong!” Biden countered, causing the audience to stand up and applaud him.

One of Biden’s main campaign promises is to continue to defend the working class. which he considers the “backbone” of the country and which he has led for the past two years, pursuing policies to promote job creation, invest in social programs and lower drug prices.

“Union workers are the best in the world. And they are leading the way: putting shovels in the ground, raising cranes in the air, and opening factories across America,” Biden said.

Biden also went on the offensive and signaled that the progress made in recent years is being compromised by the ideas of “MAGA Republicans”, the acronym for “Make America Great Again”, the campaign slogan and the presidency of Donald Trump (2017-2021).

In 2024, Biden could fight again with Trump, who has already declared his intention to compete for the Republican nomination in that party’s primary trial, despite being involved in several trials and already formally charged with jail time. to New York.

Biden chose this Tuesday, April 25, to officially announce his campaign because just today marks four years since he launched the campaign that landed him in the White House after defeating Trump.
