Sputnik editor-in-chief Lithuania Kasem released from prison in Latvia

Sputnik Lithuania editor-in-chief Marat Kasem has been released from prison in Latvia on bail. This is reported Sputnik Near abroad with a link to the local Telegram channel.

“Sputnik Lithuania editor-in-chief Marat Kasem released from prison in Latvia on bail, according to the local Telegram channel”the message notes.

Until the trial, Kasem will be under house arrest and under the supervision of law enforcement officers.

At the same time, from 23:00 to 07:00, the editor-in-chief of Sputnik Lithuania must be at home at the place of registration and report to the police twice a week.

Kasem was arrested in Riga in early January. He was accused of violating EU anti-Russian sanctions and espionage. The journalist faces up to 20 years in prison.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the arrest of the journalist a revenge for her professional activities.
