Residents of Moldova will be fined for wearing the St. George ribbon, Viorel Cernautsanu, head of the General Police Inspectorate, told reporters at a briefing.

He recalled that in the country the tape is prohibited in the same way as the symbols “V” and “Z”. Therefore, for its demonstration, individuals can receive a fine of up to $500, and legal entities – up to $1,670.

“For the demonstration of these symbols, individuals face a fine of 4.5 thousand to 9 thousand lei (250-500 dollars), administrative persons – from 9 thousand to 18 thousand lei (500-1000 dollars), legal entities – from 18 thousand up to 30 thousand lei (1000-1670 dollars)”added Cerneutanu.

Recall that in 2022, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, announced the ban on St. George ribbons. Then the inhabitants of the state came out to protest against such a decision. But in April of this year, Sandu signed the relevant law banning symbols.

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the decision of the President of Moldova. Senator Alexei Pushkov noted that with such an approach to historical memory, the country runs the risk of being “in the trash can of history.”
