For decades, Humanity is looking for signs of extraterrestrial life in space, especially via radio signals, but a new study suggests that a huge number Earth’s radioactivity could make it more visible to aliens.
Researchers from the Universities of Mauritius and Manchester used crowdsourced data to simulate radio signal leaks from cell towers and predict what an alien civilization might detect from several nearby stars, including Barnard’s Star, six light-years from Earth.
Ramiro Saide, currently at the SETI Institute’s Hat Creek Radio Observatory and a master’s student at the University of Mauritius, generated models showing the radio power these civilizations would receive as the Earth rotated.Oh, the towers rise and fall. Saide believes that unless the alien civilization is much more advanced than ours, it will be difficult for them to determine the current level of leakage of radio signals from cell towers on Earth.

The researchers are aiming to expand their investigation to include other contributors to the signature leak of radio signals from Earth. The next step is the inclusion of powerful civil and military radars, new digital broadcasting systemsWi-Fi networks, individual cell phones, and the many satellite constellations now being launched into low Earth orbit, like Elon Musk’s Starlink system.
According to Garrett, “Current estimates suggest that by the end of the decade we will have more than 100,000 satellites in low Earth orbit and beyond. The Earth is already abnormally bright in the radio spectrum.; if this trend continues, we will be easily detected by any advanced civilization with the right technology.”
