Local residents warned Norilsk residents that sharp smoke could enter the residential area of the city due to the burning on the Valkovskoye Highway. People were asked not to go out in the area.

On Thursday, May 11, a large-scale fire broke out in warehouses in the city of Norilsk, in the territory of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The publication says that the fire occurred in the area of the Valkovsky highway.

The pre-declared area of the fire was 3 thousand square meters. Initially, 41 people and 12 equipment participated in the extinguishing work. Construction machines were also used to clear the crime scene from snow.

A few hours later, the department said the area of the fire had increased to 4,000 square feet. 62 people and 16 pieces of equipment took part in extinguishing the fire.

“Firefighters are making every effort to stop the spread of the fire,” said the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

According to Vyacheslav Yurievich Konov, Senior Operations Officer of the Crisis Control Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia for the region, firefighting is complex due to the design features of the building.

The local Telegram channel warned Norilsk residents that sharp smoke could enter the residential area of the settlement due to the burning of storage facilities. The authors of the publication urged people to limit the time they spend on the street in the Valkovskoe highway district.

Later, the public also reported that there was an explosion at the fire scene and published the relevant video.

The Telegram channel explained, “The fire does not stop. Something exploded.”
