The Foreign Ministry announced the possibility of escalation in the Arctic because of NATO

NATO actions could lead to an escalation in the Arctic. The corresponding statement was made by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Nikolai Korchunov.

According to him, there are no signs of improvement in the situation in the region, TASS reports.

“NATO continues to expand into this region, the scale of the alliance’s military exercises being held there, in which its non-Arctic member countries are actively involved, is increasing.“, – said Korchunov.

He stated that the build-up of NATO’s military potential in high latitudes is now continuing.

In addition, Western countries are intensifying the course towards confrontation, confrontation and promotion of their own interests in the Arctic. This interferes with the interests of other states.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Moscow was wary of data on the preparation of the United States for conflicts with Russia and China in the Arctic.
