Armenia ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan and may withdraw from CSTO

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accepted the possibility of withdrawing from the CSTO if Yerevan considers the organization inactive.

Armenia is ready to recognize Azerbaijan’s 86.6 thousand square meters of territorial integrity. km To discuss the possibility of creating a demilitarized zone along the border between the two countries, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh. This was expressed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a press conference on 22 May.

Pashinyan said, “Armenia recognizes 86.6 thousand square kilometers of Azerbaijan and is based on Azerbaijan’s readiness to recognize 29.8 thousand square kilometers of Armenia’s territorial integrity. 86.6 thousand square kilometers of Azerbaijan includes Nagorno-Karabakh.”

The Armenian Prime Minister also noted that the issue of Armenian security and their rights in Nagorno-Karabakh should be discussed during the dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert. According to the head of government, after the signing of the relevant document, it is possible to continue discussing the creation of a special demilitarized zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Pashinyan expects the international community to guarantee that such negotiations will take place.

In addition, the Armenian leader also accepted the possibility of Armenia withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if Yerevan deems it invalid. Pashinyan also emphasized that in this case, Armenia will decide independently on its security.

If Armenia decides to legally withdraw from the CSTO, this will happen after Armenia registers that the CSTO has left Armenia. Such an agenda exists if the CSTO becomes an inactive organization. “Then we’ll have to decide on our own security issues,” he said.

Recall that the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, said more than a month ago on April 18 that he was ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as Azerbaijani territory. Later, in his speech at the National Assembly, he stated that Armenia fully recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and then the Armenian opposition accused Pashinyan of surrendering Nagorno-Karabakh.
