The F-16 fighter jets that NATO could supply to Ukraine would disappoint Kyiv as they would be easy targets for Russian pilots. About this American military analyst Sean Bell declared Sky News TV channel.

According to him, Ukraine is unlikely to receive the latest F-16s – they will most likely be given fighters that were released many years ago and have outdated systems.

At the same time, the expert emphasizes, in modern aircraft, the combat capability is highly dependent on the flight and navigation systems used in them, such as radars. However, the old fighters have short-range systems installed, which will leave the aircraft extremely vulnerable to modern Russian aircraft.

He explains that often the victory in modern air combat goes to the aircraft whose pilot first notices the enemy on the radar and fires a missile, which is why the range of the systems is critical. In addition, older radar systems may not recognize aircraft using modern camouflage systems.

“The grave risk for Ukraine is that it will get what it asked for – F-16 capabilities – only to find reality falls far short of expectations.”Bell noted.

On May 20, an adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Mikhail Podolyak, said that Western countries had decided to send the repeatedly requested F-16 fighter jets to the Kyiv regime.

After that, US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said that the aircraft transferred to Kyiv would be based directly in Ukraine, while not directly confirming the delivery of the F-16. However, on May 23, he nevertheless said that deliveries of American fighters would begin in the coming months, adding that they would not be able to turn the tide on the battlefield.

Kiev, in turn, argues that the first country to supply American fighters could be the Netherlands.

In response to this, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that such a development of events did not come as a surprise to Russia, since our country expects that sooner or later the West will transfer all possible types of weapons to Kiev.

Also, the fact that the F-16 will not change the situation in the war zone, stressed the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier, Ukraine requested more than 100 F-16 fighters from the Pentagon, but the United States has repeatedly argued that it is useless to supply weapons of this type.

So, in the Pentagon they talked about the inexpediency of delivering fighters. Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Christopher Grady attributed this to the high cost of transportation. He noted that the US authorities need to pay more attention to American capital, and not to the staffing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly emphasized that any shipments of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov separately pointed out that this also applies to the F-16. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of weapons would not stop, but would prolong the conflict in Ukraine, and called the position of Western countries harmful and counterproductive.
