Due to worsening weather conditions, traffic on the Transcaucasian Highway connecting South Ossetia with Russia has been suspended. This was reported in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia.

“Due to the deterioration of weather conditions, the impossibility of ensuring safe passage, the movement of vehicles along the Transcaucasian Highway is prohibited from 21:00 on June 11 until further notice,” – the department said in a statement.

Earlier, traffic on the Transkam was also suspended from 19:30 Saturday to 10:30 Sunday, also due to adverse weather conditions.

Prior to this, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for North Ossetia-Alania reported a storm warning in the period from 10 to 13 June. The agency reported that heavy downpours combined with thunderstorms and gusty winds at speeds of up to 20-25 m/s are expected on the territory of the republic. In addition, mudflows of small volume are expected in the mountains.

Transkam is the only road linking Russia with South Ossetia.

Earlier it was reported that in the Sredneakhtubinsky district of the Volgograd region, a storm tore off the roof of one of the schools.
