House of Representatives Tuesday passed a bipartisan bill to prevent the federal government from banning gas stoves, the latest attempt by Republicans to stop what they call the administration’s anti-fossil fuel agenda. Joe BidenPolitico reports.
The bill, and a related bill due this week that runs counter to government-imposed measures to make appliances more efficient, is unlikely to win votes in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
But Republicans touted their legislation as a counter to the Biden administration’s overreach. despite the fact that federal proposals to completely ban the sale of gas stoves are not being considered.
Representatives of the House of Representatives on Tuesday approved the Gas Stove Freedom and Protection Act, H.R. 1615 (118), which would prevent the Consumer Product Safety Commission from banning gas stoves, by a vote of 248 to 180. Ultimately, 29 Democrats voted along with Republicans in favor of the measure.
“We know the motivation behind the CPSC, and throughout this administration, there has been a green climate push,” said North Dakota Rep. Kelly Armstrong, a sponsor of the bill. “The goal is to dictate how you live every aspect of your life: how you save and invest in the future with ESG, how you drive by banning gasoline cars, and now the goal is to control how you cook”.
A vote in the House of Representatives occurs when several cities and states, led by Democrats, are seeking to ban these types of stoves in new buildings..
House Democrats who opposed the bill They called the Republicans’ arguments “disinformation.” and they said it was a distraction that would do nothing to address pressing issues such as the effects of climate change.
CPSC, the agency responsible for managing consumer product safety in the US, won’t be banning gas stoves or even proposing rules for them anytime soon.
