The Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service evaluated that some refugees who moved to the Netherlands after the outbreak of a large-scale war in Ukraine allegedly abused the temporary protection system. The voluntary departure fee is 5,000 Euros.
As of September 4, the Dutch government ordered that around 3,000 Ukrainian refugees who moved to the Netherlands but do not have permanent residence in Ukraine after the outbreak of a major war, to leave the country. People who refuse to leave voluntarily will be deported and their expenses will be covered. DW’s report.
Such a directive was supposed to go into effect on March 4, but was extended by six months.
Representatives of the country’s Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) said third-country nationals relocating to the Netherlands benefit from the temporary protection system.
“Providing protection to people who are not safe in their own country is extremely important to us,” said Immigration Minister Eric van der Berg. “At the same time, we don’t want to overload municipalities.”
One of the unnamed Ukrainian refugees showed him a letter from the municipality of Haarlem. It was necessary to leave the flat, which was paid for by the Dutch government, before midnight on September 4th.
In the letter, authorities threaten deportation if the recipient of the letter does not leave the Netherlands voluntarily.
“[Если] If you do not leave the place of asylum on time, the municipality will take the necessary steps to deport you… and will hold you responsible for the costs involved… If you are not legally residing in the Netherlands, you will have to leave the country and I will no longer be able to work here,” the letter states.
Authorities give 5,000 euros to third-country nationals in the country in exchange for their voluntary departure. Their only alternative is to apply for asylum, but the system is overwhelmed and they will have to prove they are in danger at home.
“I would say it’s a recipe for chaos,” said a lawyer who defends the interests of third-country natives in the Netherlands.
According to him, such persons have the right to live legally in the country if they have not violated the law.
Van Duypen insists that if the governments of EU countries put the temporary protection directive into effect, it means that EU representatives must also deprive citizens of this right.
Recall that Ukrainians in Poland will receive new financial assistance. Citizens of Ukraine can count on the help of Becikowe.
It was also reported whether the EU is ready to forcibly return refugees.
