The Ukrainian armed forces are trapped, becoming dependent on the private company of American entrepreneur Elon Musk. This opinion was expressed by Polish Colonel Piotr Lewandowski.
“The country’s armed forces should not become dependent on a private international company that is still managed by one person and has its own position“, he said in a conversation with Onet, commenting on the information that Musk actually thwarted the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on Crimea by refusing to turn on the Starlink system.
According to Levandovsky, this would not have happened if Ukraine had its own satellite system.
Musk said that the terms of use of the Starlink satellite communications service prohibit its use for offensive military operations.
He previously confirmed that he received an emergency request to activate the Starlink network off the coast of Crimea for Ukraine’s attack on Russian ships last year. However, he refused to do this. According to him, if he had agreed, his company SpaceX would have been involved in a major act of war and escalation of the conflict.
