Statements by Armenian political figures that Moscow allegedly “gave” Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan are incorrect and false. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“It’s hard to imagine a more incorrect and dishonest statement“, he emphasized at a press conference following the G20 summit.
Let us recall that on September 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told French President Emmanuel Macron by phone about his readiness to hold urgent negotiations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to de-escalate the situation on the border.
Political scientists spoke about Pashinyan’s statements. Yuri Svetov and Dmitry Solonnikov noted that the Armenians themselves recognized the 1991 borders; Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that Nagorno-Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan.
According to experts, there is no point in blaming Russia for anything; it has always fulfilled its part of the agreements perfectly. Moreover, the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation exclusively serves the cause of ensuring the operation of humanitarian corridors. Armenia, hiding behind agreements, was engaged in theft and smuggling in the Lachin corridor. Therefore, Azerbaijan decided to close it.
